Peanut is a 5 year old Somali/Domestic Long Hair cat that was rescued as a small kitten (upper right photo). She was extremely malnourished weighed only 0.2 pounds! In a matter of one week, she began to gain weight and thrive (lower right photo). After being treated for ringworm, her fur became beautiful and she has grown up to be a beautiful, extremely loving and loyal cat. In the last 1 ½ years, Peanut has developed wheezing and has shown signs of respiratory distress. She underwent a rhinoscopy last July, which revealed she has severe nasopharyngeal stenosis (narrowing of the nasal section of the pharynx). Despite aggressive antibiotic and steroid treatment, her condition continues to decline. The treatment for this rare condition in cats is nasopharyngeal stenting. This procedure will be done by a cardiologist at the Ohio State Veterinary College. The expected procedure costs, with follow up care is estimated at $4,000.
